How many polyphenols does Oleaphen contain?

The Oleaphen 2025 harvest contained 2,236 mg/kg of polyphenols, including 1,248 mg/kg of oleocanthal, tested by independent accredited laboratories. Final results for the 2026 harvest are pending, and preliminary testing shows higher results than 2025.

How does Oleaphen compare with other olive oils?

Typical supermarket extra virgin olive oil contains about 100 to 200 mg/kg of polyphenols and under 50 mg/kg of oleocanthal. Some well-known high-phenolic oils sold as shots contain about 1,000 mg/kg of polyphenols, of which about 200 mg/kg is oleocanthal, around 20%. The Oleaphen 2025 harvest contained 2,236 mg/kg of polyphenols and 1,248 mg/kg of oleocanthal, 56% of the total. One 5 ml daily dose of Oleaphen carries as much oleocanthal as more than a cup of typical US extra virgin olive oil.

Why does oleocanthal matter?

Oleocanthal is the olive oil polyphenol that causes the peppery sting at the back of the throat, and most olive oils contain very little of it. Total polyphenols and oleocanthal are not the same number: an oil can be high in polyphenols and still low in oleocanthal. In Oleaphen, oleocanthal makes up more than half of the polyphenols.

Why is Oleaphen bitter, and why does it sting the throat?

The bitterness and the sting at the back of the throat come from the oil's polyphenols, and the sting in particular comes from oleocanthal. A smooth, mild oil carries little of it. Oleaphen calls this Feel the Phenols™: the sting is how you know the oleocanthal is there.

How does Oleaphen protect the polyphenols in the oil?

Oleaphen olives are refrigerated as soon as they leave the tree. The oil is extracted without oxygen, refrigerated as soon as it is extracted, stored at 4 °C until dispatch, and sealed one dose at a time, away from air and light until it is opened. Heat and oxygen break down polyphenols, and bottled oil usually spends months at room temperature with air trapped above it and fresh air let in every time it is opened.

Why does Oleaphen come in single sealed monodoses instead of a bottle?

A bottle is opened again and again, and every opening lets in fresh air, so the last spoonful is not the oil that was tested. Each Oleaphen daily dose is sealed on its own and opened once.

How is Oleaphen tested?

Every Oleaphen harvest is analysed with accredited methods by independent third-party laboratories, and every certificate is published on the Oleaphen lab results page. Many olive oils print a polyphenol figure with no certificate, or one measured by NMR, a method not recognised by the IOC or EFSA that tends to read higher, so figures from different methods cannot be compared directly.

What is in an Oleaphen box?

Each box contains 30 sealed 5 ml daily doses of extra virgin olive oil, with a batch number linked to the lab results for that oil. One dose a day, one box a month.

How do you take Oleaphen?

One 5 ml daily monodose a day, on its own or over food once it is off the heat.

What does the research say about olive oil polyphenols?

Olive oil polyphenols are among the most studied compounds in food, with more than 2,000 published papers, and the research keeps pointing to the importance of polyphenol concentration and of oleocanthal. Oleaphen works with research institutions, and its oil is currently being used in clinical trials.
